NHS Eyecare Services at Mackey Opticians

Mackey Opticians provides free NHS Eye Examinations (Sight Tests) and free NHS Spectacles to Adults and Children. This page will tell you who is eligible for NHS Services. Please contact us if you have any further questions.
AM I ENTITLED TO A FREE NHS SIGHT TEST?
You are entitled if you are:
Age
- You are under 16
- You are under 19 years of age and in full-time education
- You are aged 60 or over
Health
- You are registered blind or partially sighted
- You have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
- You are 40 or over and have a brother, sister or parent with glaucoma
- You have been advised by a hospital ophthalmologist that you're at risk of Glaucoma
- You are prescribed a complex lens
Income
- You or your partner receive Income Support or Income-Based Job Seeker's Allowance
- You or your partner receive a Tax Credit and are named on a Tax Credit NHS Exemption Certificate
- You have a low income and are named on an NHS HC2 certificate for full help with health costs.
People named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) might also get help. See your certificate for details.
Please bring your proof of entitlement when you come along for your eye test as you will be asked to provide it. If you are unsure whether you qualify for a free NHS eye test, please call your local practice.

NHS HELP PAYING FOR SPECTACLES
The NHS provides help with the cost of glasses based on Age, Health or Income.
As well as a free NHS eye test, you may also be entitled to an NHS optical voucher that can be used to purchase glasses for FREE at Mackey Opticians.
You are entitled to an NHS Voucher if you are:
Age
- You are under 16
- You are under 19 years of age and in full-time education
Health
- You are registered blind or partially sighted
- You are prescribed a complex lens
Income
- You or your partner receive Income Support or Income-Based Job Seeker's Allowance

How can I use my NHS voucher?
NHS customers are entitled to free frames and lenses from our FREESTYLE range.
Alternatively - you can choose any other frame in the store and discount the value of your NHS voucher off the complete price of the spectacles. You will also be eligible for any offers that may be available.
Terms and Conditions
Lenses provided for free are standard, uncoated lenses.
Includes single vision, bifocal standard lenses and varifocal lenses.
Upgrades and coatings are available please ask for prices.
KIDS GO FREE
If your child (under 16) is prescribed glasses after their free eye test at Mackey Opticians, your Optometrist will give you an NHS voucher towards the cost.
We have a very large range of spectacle frames completely free to children including Barbie, Action Man, BMX, Spiderman and many more.
We also have several kids designer ranges such as Hannah Montana, Bench kids and Adidas which cost from just £25.00 with your NHS Voucher.
